Page of Swords

The Page of Swords is the Messenger of Air—the keen-eyed youth who holds the sword aloft with both hands, testing its weight, watching the wind for the direction of the next truth to pursue. He is the scout of the intellect, alert, curious, and not yet wise enough to know what the blade will cost him.

When the Page of Swords appears upright, the Querent encounters a fresh surge of mental energy—curiosity sharpened to a point, the eagerness to investigate, question, and cut through pretence with the directness of youth. The Page stands upon high ground, his hair and clothing whipped by the wind, his sword held up and slightly back as if preparing to strike at the first thing that moves. Birds wheel in the turbulent sky behind him; the clouds race. This figure is vigilant, mentally agile, and entirely unafraid of what he might discover. The card may announce new information, an important message, or the arrival of a young person—or a young energy within the Querent—that sees through conventions and speaks uncomfortable truths with disarming ease. The counsel is to welcome this sharpness but to govern it: the Page's sword is real, and an undisciplined blade cuts indiscriminately. Gather intelligence. Ask the difficult question. But choose the audience carefully, for not every truth is made more useful by being spoken at the wrong moment.

Reversed, the Page of Swords warns of gossip, mental scattered ness, or the misuse of information. The blade swings wildly; the Page cuts himself. The Querent may be dealing with rumours, malicious communication, or an individual whose cleverness exceeds their judgement. There may be spying, eavesdropping, or the delivery of unwelcome news. The Querent's own mental energy may be scattered—many ideas pursued but none brought to completion, an excess of curiosity without discipline. The counsel is to sharpen focus and to recognise that the sword of the mind, like any blade, requires training before it can be trusted.
